Thanks for visiting The Poet Laura Ate. This silly stuff is the poetry of David George, the Gerontificator. If you enjoy art you may also want to visit my art blog at thegerontificator.wordpress.com
The Poet Laura Ate
Laura was a pleasant girl,
Well mannered and refined,
Until she met a poet
Who said he had not dined
And would she care to have him
For dinner late next week?
She said she would,
But could not wait,
And stuffed him in her cheek.
She hardly bit and barely chewed,
And as she heard him chide her
She swallowed hard, and in one gulp
The poet was inside her.
Now from his stomach cavern
Comes poetry sublime,
And Laura’s host to haunting airs,
Of comedy in rhyme.
Because the poet’s needs are few,
To swindling he’s averse,
So poetry is charged per line,
And sometimes charged perverse.

Very, very clever — from the title to that killer last line. Well done!
Thanks Rana, for visiting and following my blog. Yes, the herding instinct is not something even Laura has. The correction has been made. Do you know how many times I’ve reread this post and didn’t see that? Thank you, and I don’t understand how I do it myself, just enjoy nonsense and silly poetry. Have since I was young. Maybe I’m a bit nonsensical by nature.

Thanks Marilyn for the high praise! I’m having so much fun. So much fun.
ha…that was a lot of fun…you got to be careful when the poet gets inside you…def some fun word play…smiles. perverse…ha
Yes Brian, I don’t think I’ll look for a dinner invitation from her. Thanks for commenting and liking my poetry.
charged per/verse…way cool..that was a fun read…thanks for the smile
Glad I can bring smiles. That’s satisfying to me. Thanks, Claudia.
Incredibly clever and so well written! I look forward to more of what you call silly. You are a craftsman 🙂
Thanks for the compliments (you too Claudia and Brian). Maybe we should start a mutual admiration society.
I’ll have to be careful to keep my distance from Laura! I love the artwork and creative poetry! I nominated you for the Liebster Award. Congratulations! You can get the details on it at http://genesmusings.wordpress.com/2013/04/14/wow-i-was-nominated-liebster-award/
Thanks for the nomination Gene. It is an honor. I’m so glad to hear that people are enjoying my nonsense.
I love the poem! I can never get clever, funny stuff like this together. One thing quick; shouldn’t it be “heard him chide her”?
